Here at Dulles South Chantilly Automotive our motto is “It’s not just a repair, it’s a relationship”.
Whether you are a new driver or a seasoned one who just wants to know more about your car and auto maintenance, we are here to help! Just this past weekend we were fortunate enough to have a group of new drivers join us for a car care clinic. This particular clinic was meant to be informative and hands on.
We started with an overall discussion of the importance of routine auto maintenance and car safety. We then moved to the specifics of the cars starting and charging system, followed by a hands on demonstration of how to jump start a car. Safety is key so we made sure to go over some of the things that can, and have gone wrong, when jumping a car. The girls learned about vehicle fluids, how to check and identify the oil, transmission, windshield wiper, coolant and brake fluids. They experienced trying to turn the wheels of a car without power steering assist.
Next we put the car up in the air and explained how the suspension system works, what’s a shock and a control arm and why are they important? We explained how the braking system works and they held the pads and rotors in hand. We talked about exhaust systems and how dangerous those fumes cam be. Lastly, before we put the car on the ground we identified where the jack points are located on the frame. Next – you guessed it, they changed a tire. If you have never tried to break a lug nut loose with a tire iron, give it a try. We did let them try the impact wrench, just because it’s cool! We talked about tires, what can be repaired and when they need to be replaced. The girls left feeling empowered with the knowledge that they could perform simple auto maintenance and change a tire if they had too. We left feeling like we made a difference in the community that day.
If you are interested in learning more about your car, call us. We would love to see you at one of our clinics.Tags:
